It’s all about VCP (Visibility + Credibility = Profitiblity). What the best way to achieve that? By being a visible resource to your professional peers – some you may not have met yet!
I’m not above (and even prefer) to utilize material I’ve already written. I actually learned this during Dr. Ivan Miser’s authoring mentoring calls. He taught me to submit articles in a variety of locations, spread out over the year; thus lengthening the time and place of visibility and also to tailor them for that particular publication.
One other thing that I feel is crucial advice, do not write during your prime time. If our purpose to get published is to increase our business and networking results, then we really shouldn’t be cutting into our business and networking time, should we? I set aside Saturday mornings or Wednesday evenings to write. It just works well for my schedule. The other thing that works really well is adding topics to an ongoing list I have on my cell phone. I can refer to that list anytime I am ready to write.
Blogs, eZines and online news aren’t your only resource for getting your visibility out there to add to your credibility (remember that VCP formula). In today’s world you can even self publish. If you are considering self publishing, there are two excellent books I would highly recommend; Guy Kawasaki’s APE: Author, Publisher, Entrepreneur-How to Publish a Book and How to Blog a Book: Write, Publish, and Promote Your Work One Post at a Time by Nina Amir.
Remember a book could also be passive marketing for you, silently reaching your targeted network. People will find it any number of ways, on a shelf, in a waiting waiting room, or on a coffee table. Got a book? Be a speaker!
Assignment:
Our assignment today begins with you writing a story about your Networking experience or other topic of interest. This could be 200 words or 2,000 words. I promise you, there are no word count militia.
You’ll post this in your very own blog if you have one, or submit to an appropriate industry blog, Also, it’s not a bad idea to send a digital photo with the story and follow up with a call.
Remember to use your social media, share your words on LinkedIn, FaceBook, Twitter, Reddit, etc. Make the most out of those avenues to gain the most exposure.
Know someone who is in the top ten percent of networkers or wants to be in the top ten percent?
Forward this and help them be a part of it!
